How many Vein Treatments will I need?
Spider Veins usually require touch-ups and yearly maintenance. Varicose Vein Treatments are also not necessarily a “one-and-done” procedure. Patients with vein disease require careful medical supervision and when needed additional follow-up procedures.
How does Dr. James Sherman assess your Vein Treatment needs?
Because everyone is different, only a personal consultation with our Vein Specialist Dr. James Sherman, and his qualified medical staff at Vein Specialists of Augusta can determine each patient’s vein therapy needs. A vein ultrasound will allow for proper diagnosis and helps Dr. Sherman decide which therapeutic methods are the preferred option.
For example, suppose you hope to minimize your spider veins but not eliminate them, in that case, you may need just one or two sclerotherapy sessions. On the other hand, if you have many spider veins and also suffer from varicose veins, the course of treatment will change and solutions will be presented during your consultation after your vein ultrasound.
Does Insurance cover Vein Treatment?
That depends on various factors. Generally speaking, most comprehensive insurance plans cover therapeutic treatments for vein disease. Cosmetic Therapy for veins (spider veins) is usually not covered by insurance but is affordable. Treatments for spider veins of the legs for example cost between $400-$500 per treatment up to an hour on average.
The type and location of your venous problems will also affect your treatment needs. We often treat spider veins and varicose veins differently. Treatment of the greater saphenous vein is different from treatment for superficial spider veins on the face.
The cause of your vein problems is the most significant factor. If you have developed a spider vein or varicose vein because of an injury, but otherwise, your veins are healthy, you may need only one to four treatment sessions to address the current problem. However, if you are dealing with chronic spider veins or varicose veins, such as those caused by hereditary factors, pregnancy, obesity, or prolonged standing or sitting, Dr. Sherman may decide to use different vein therapy methods for different areas of the body.
Vein Treatments At Vein Specialists of Augusta
The type of vein problems you are experiencing will determine which Vein treatments are available to you. The number of treatments you can expect to receive will vary depending on your treatment type.
- Endovenous Laser Ablation Treatment (ELAS): Endovenous laser ablation often requires at least two treatment sessions.
- VenClose procedure: ClosureFast™ may sometimes be performed in just one treatment session but often requires two or more sessions.
- VenaSeal™: VenaSeal™ may be used to treat multiple veins in a single session.
- Ambulatory Phlebectomy: Ambulatory phlebectomy may be performed as a single procedure.
- Sclerotherapy: Sclerotherapy, the most common solution for spider veins and some varicose veins, usually requires two to four treatments and follow up maintenance treatments yearly.
For those needing multiple treatment sessions, we will space each session apart. This spacing varies per treatment and person. Symptom improvement and the final results may appear as early as four weeks up to several months after your treatment regimen.
What to do if still experience vein issues
Any of these vein treatments should effectively address the problematic vein, and you should not need additional treatment for it once your initial sessions are over. However, causes of vein problems are often ongoing conditions, and additional spider veins or varicose veins may develop. Whenever it’s possible, we identify the source of the problem and treat it. Many patients will need to plan for additional maintenance treatments every one to five years.
When choosing a skilled vein specialist such as Dr. Sherman patients can expect successful resolution of venous problems in just a few treatment sessions. As mentioned above there is a high possibility of maintenance treatments after the initial procedure. Request an appointment with Dr. Sherman in Augusta today.
